The cause of the ailment could never be scoped easily. Ultraviolet rays from any source when exposed for long time may cause sunburns. Ultraviolet rays can be from sunlight or even from a certain lamp. Person when affected by sunburns needs immediate and emergency care. Prolonged exposure of ultraviolet rays may cause blisters to appear over the skin of the infected person. Blisters are the secondary infections to the skin sunburns. Sunburn ointments and lotions can replenish the hopes of peaceful mind for the infected person. External applications play a large part in the treatment of sunburns. The following are the applications most commonly used.

Several sunburn ointments and pastes are prepared to treat sunburns. These preparations are applied when there is no excessive weeping. Pastes are most useful for sub acute slightly moist sunburns, while ointments or pastes preferred for the more chronic scaling sunburns. When ointments or pastes are applied, the removal of old application should be effected by swabbing with cotton-wool soaked in oil in order to prevent damage to the underlying skin. Ointments and pastes should be thickly applied and as little covering as possible used. Comfrey is given for acute cases. These catalyses the cell regeneration of the cell lost by direct attack of the ultraviolet rays on the skin. It is helpful in treatment of the sunburns. This must be applied only at affected areas so as to induce cell regeneration rapidly.
