Severe sunburns can be caused by direct exposure of special type of light known as ultra violet (UV) light. Ultra-violet rays are prone to cause serious damages to the skin. Ultra-violet rays and other harmful rays have a common source sun. Sunlight is comprised of useful light and also certain harmful rays. Ultra-violet rays are one of the prime constituents of sunlight. It is quite painful to the patients suffering from this disease since burns when developed would cause uncontrollable pain. The extent of burns through the skin depends on the exposure of the ultra-violet rays over the skin. This uncontrollable pain can cause severe mental disturbances leading them to restless conditions with sleepless nights. Severe sunburn treatments include several methods or modes by which treatment is given. Some severe sunburn treatment methods are enumerated in the subsequent lines.

The attendee of the patient, who is affected by sunburn should keep in mind that first thing he has to do is to ease the patient by giving them cool baths (use of showers should be avoided since it may prove to be painful) or place wet cool towels over the patient’s body so that it may temporarily suppress the pain experienced by him/her. Taking a bath with water mixed with 2 to 3 teaspoons of baking soda could prove to be quite soothing to the burns caused by the ultra-violet rays. Spraying up of hydrocortisone can be useful in relieving the patient from serious pain. This may reduce peeling and itching. Sunburn may dehydrate the person affected so intake of water should be increased.
